Mary Untier of Knots Rosary
This special Rosary represents the devotion of Mary Untier of Knots. It features a unique magenta tiger’s eye bead for the Hail Mary beads and is built in two different versions: Silver or Bronze. The Our Father beads are engraved metal knots, also representing how Mary unties the spiritual knots that we create on earth. The centerpiece, in either bronze or sterling silver, depicts Mary Untier of Knots, leading to a beautiful bronze or sterling, hand cast floral crucifix. We think this Rosary represents the perfect Marian devotion for our times.
There is a long history to the Marian devotion of Mary Untier of Knots. Depicted beautifully in the painting by Johann Melchoir Georg Schmittdner, a German Barouque painter of the 1600's, Mary is suspended between heaven and earth, gleaming with light. A dove, representing the Holy trinity, is seen above Mary's head and Mary's feet are crushing a serpent, representing the victory over Satan. There is a halo of 12 stars around Mary's head. Mary is attending to the untying (often referred to an undoing) of knots that represent the spiritual "knots" that we create on earth, while two angels assist Mary at her task. All of this is depicted in the centerpiece, either bronze or sterling, of this rosary. On the front of the centerpiece, with the image of Mary, is the inscription "Desata Nos" which translates to "untie Us." On the back, is the inscription "Roga por Nos" which translates to "Pray for Us." The cross of the hand cast bronze or sterling crucifix is filled with flowers. Roses and lilies have been symbols of Mary since early times, representing her purity, glory, and sorrow. The choice of magenta tiger's eye for the Hail Mary beads represents the blending of colors often associated with Mary and the image of Mary in the painting by Johann Schmittdner, which shows Mary in a combination of crimson and blue. Magenta is the combination of red and blue, with the natural texture of tiger's eye creating a mesmerizing pattern. Finally, the vintage brass knots, made in the 1940's, represent the "knots" that Mary is helping to untie for us.
